Back pain is one of the most common complaints among travellers visiting Bali. Long-haul flights, hours on a scooter, beach lounging, and surf sessions all take a toll on the muscles that run the length of your spine. A professional back massage is one of the fastest, most effective ways to restore comfort and get back to enjoying your holiday. At Home Service Massage Bali, we bring that relief directly to your door.
What is Back Massage?
A back massage is a targeted therapeutic treatment that focuses on the muscles, fascia, and soft tissue of the upper back, lower back, and shoulders. Our therapists use a combination of effleurage (long, sweeping strokes), petrissage (kneading and lifting of muscle tissue), and trigger-point pressure to release areas of chronic tension. Depending on the level of pressure you request, the session can be deeply relaxing or specifically rehabilitative. We offer two durations: a focused 30-minute session ideal for a quick tension release, and a thorough 60-minute session that covers the full back, shoulders, neck base, and upper glutes.
How It Works
After you book via WhatsApp, your therapist arrives at your location with a professional portable massage table, freshly laundered linens, towels, and your choice of massage oil – our standard blend is a warming coconut and ginger oil that helps muscles soften quickly. You lie face-down, fully supported by the padded table, while the therapist works systematically from the base of the skull to the sacrum. They check in regularly about pressure preference and adapt the technique to any areas that need extra attention. At the end of the session you stay on the table for a few minutes before sitting up slowly, and the therapist leaves you with a short set of post-massage stretches to prolong the benefit.
Benefits of Back Massage
Who Is It For?
Our back massage service is suited to almost anyone. It is particularly popular with travellers who have just arrived in Bali after long flights from Europe, Australia, or North America and need immediate relief from neck and lower-back stiffness. Surfers find it invaluable for releasing the tight latissimus and lower-back muscles that build up after paddling sessions at Canggu or Uluwatu. Remote workers and digital nomads who spend long hours at a laptop appreciate the shoulder and upper-back focus. Couples often book simultaneous sessions for a shared in-villa spa experience. We do ask clients with recent spinal injuries, disc herniations, or post-surgical conditions to consult their doctor first – we can accommodate many conditions but always with prior disclosure.
Why Choose Home Service?
Having your back massage at your villa or hotel rather than in a busy spa carries several practical advantages. You do not have to navigate Bali traffic after a treatment when your body is completely relaxed – you can move directly from the table to your bed or daybed. There is no waiting room, no background noise from other treatment rooms, and no upsell pressure. You choose the music, the lighting, and the ambient temperature. For groups, we can send multiple therapists simultaneously so everyone gets their treatment at the same time rather than waiting. Our prices are also considerably lower than hotel spa rates because we operate with lower overhead.
After Your Back Massage
To maximise the benefit of your back massage, drink plenty of water in the hour after the session. This helps the lymphatic system flush the metabolic waste that is released from muscles during deep work. Avoid intense exercise for at least four hours. If the therapist applied firm pressure to particularly tight areas, mild soreness the following day is completely normal and usually resolves within 24 hours. Applying a warm compress or taking a warm bath on the evening of your massage can extend the relaxation effect.

Frequently Asked Questions – Back Massage
What is the difference between the 30-minute and 60-minute back massage?
The 30-minute session (Rp 150.000) focuses on the upper back, neck base, and shoulders – the areas most people carry tension. The 60-minute session (Rp 170.000) covers the full back from neck to sacrum including the lower back, mid-back, and trapezius in detail. If you have lower back issues or want a truly comprehensive treatment, the 60-minute option is strongly recommended.
Do I need to undress completely for a back massage?
You only need to remove or lower your top. The therapist keeps your lower half fully draped with a fresh sheet at all times. We always maintain your privacy and comfort throughout the session.
Can you do a back massage at my hotel room in Bali?
Yes. We bring our own portable massage table, linens, and oils. All we need is a reasonably clear space of about 2 metres by 1.5 metres. We serve all hotels, villas, and Airbnbs across Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Ubud, Seminyak, Sanur, and the Bukit Peninsula.
Is a back massage suitable after surfing?
Absolutely – post-surf back massage is one of our most popular requests. Paddling works the latissimus dorsi and erector spinae muscles intensely, and a 60-minute back massage after your session at Batu Bolong or Uluwatu helps flush lactic acid buildup, reduces next-day soreness, and keeps you surfing every day of your holiday.
How quickly can a therapist arrive for a back massage?
In most areas of Bali we can arrange arrival within 1–2 hours of booking. For same-day bookings, send us a WhatsApp message with your location and preferred time and we will confirm availability immediately. In Canggu, where we are based, arrival times are typically under 45 minutes.
